Women Empowerment Wednesday: Latifah Cecilia Ama

Empowerment: to give power or authority to; to enable or permit
There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13 NLT

Women Empowerment Wednesday is movement where one woman empowers another woman to follow her dreams.

This months Women Empower Wednesday is on Latifah Cecilia Ama who is on a journey to overcome self-doubt as she takes us through her weight loss diary.

1. Describe yourself in three words

Unapologetic, strong and loyal.

2. What do you do?

I am a student in my senior year, taking classes at University in my home city in Germany. I also work part time at Pizza Hut.

3. What or who has influenced you to start this fitness journey?

I was tired of looking at myself in the mirror and hated what I saw, being a girl of my size, I have had constant confidence issues and anxiety. Therefore, I am just trying to push forward by work on my confidence levels and keep my anxiety in check. There were so many obstacles I had to overcome during this journey and more I still have to overcome but I just do not want to give up this time.

4. What path did you take?

I weight lift as much as possible since it gives me the best results. However, I’m having trouble with time. As I feel like there is not a enough time in the day, with me trying to keep up with lectures, my job as well as working out and trying to take control of my diet. Which has proven to be the hardest part of this weight loss journey. I literally just had a stuffed crust pizza before writing this article, lol, so you get were I’m coming from.

5. What have you learned so far?

That I lack self-discipline but I still cannot give up.

6. What has been your biggest challenge so far?

Trying to eat healthy. It is literally killing me since I am a very emotional eater. I also fight a lot of mental issues so it is quite a complicated situation but I will keep fighting for my goal.

8. How do you keep yourself motivated?

I really love seeing other peoples transformation on Instagram. Some of my favourite fitness pages are @afrogirlfitness, @lizfitnessbby and @ariiiana.fit. I also like looking at cute stuff I want to wear when I attain body goals.  I can’t wait to rock my @dao_fitness Monochrome Side Panel Shorts everywhere.

8. What Is your opinion on a healthy lifestyle?

I think a healthy lifestyle is a goal many aspire to have but only some people reach it since it requires a lot of time and money, discipline and motivation. It should be a choice made by you and only you to actually pursuit a healthy lifestyle as this is the only way you will stay on top of your game.

9. How often do you exercise and what is your workout routine?

I try to workout twice a week, but mostly only end up getting to the gym once. One of my goals is to make it to the gym 3-4 times a time. I LOVE weightlifting so I do 15-20minutes of cardio as a warmup; mostly treadmill and cross-trainer. Then I either do a full body routine or a lot of leg and glutes training with free weights or machine exercises. For videos and workout plans check my Instagram.

10. What fitness mistakes should our #daofitbabe community avoid?

  • Don’t put too much pressure on yourself
  • Always be honest with yourself
  • Don’t be devastated when something doesn’t go your way
  • Don’t give up on yourself

11. Name three foods you couldn’t live without?

Pasta, Pizza, and more Pasta

12. What books or resources would you suggest our #daofitbabe community add to their reading list/resources?

I would definitely say watch transformation videos of other fitness people, that is what keeps me going. Sadly, I don’t really have a fitness book to recommend but just read Harry Potter, because it’s the best!

13. Any last words of wisdom?

Keep fighting babes, you are beautiful now and you will remain beautiful in the future!

Five Fun Facts…

What is your favourite workout?

Definitely dead lifts

Name one piece of active wear clothing you live in?

My Daofitness workout shorts will be that item when I finally lose my weight

What is always in your gym bag?

Deodorant, water (or lemon infused water), and a towel

Your favourite body part?

My eyes, my hands and my hair

What does your fitness future look like and what is next?

I hope I will reach my fitness goals soon since the temperature will finally be bearable again, in Germany.

First of all I’d like to say that this blog adds great value to your brand!!!

I am a male in my late 30s and have always been into fitness for myself and as a trainer. Over the years my eyes have been opened to the female issues regarding body image and self esteem.

My Mrs has been a Zumba instructor for a while but isn’t doing as well as she’d like within the Zumba world, so I asked her recently why isn’t she trying her absolute best to get into the best shape possible. The answers were VERY revealing and I’ve concluded that the mind can definately choke our physical potential. This is such as shame but I am so much more sympathetic and sensitive to what you females go through.
